About the Artist
Back in 1972 after deciding a Business Administration degree was not for her, Ann took her first ever drawing class at a local community college, titled life drawing which really meant a nude. That was surprising and she was hooked. After that, a class in pottery, painting, enamel work, jewelry, tapestry making, paper making, weaving and other courses took up much of her time. Fast forward to 2022. After 25 years as a high school English teacher and a move to South Carolina followed by another move to North Carolina, Ann met a group of talented artists in Hendersonville, NC and Greenville, SC. Her love for the arts was reborn.
Currently Ann is experimenting with oils, acrylics, and mixed media on a wide range of subjects. She often focuses on scenes from her extensive travel photos. She travels extensively in Canada and the American West and spent years taking students to the major capitals of Europe, photographing everything from landscapes to statuary to buildings and gardens, people, trees and bodies of water. All of these subjects have patterns and speak to the natural order of the world.
Ann feels that art should always speak to the person viewing it. You can look at a painting or a collage, sculpture or glass work and instantly know that it speaks to you and will make you happy and create memories when you have it in your home.
She is dabbling in incorporating words into collage from her favorite novels; painting long range mountain scenes from the Western United States and Canada to the Northernmost parts of Scotland and Ireland; capturing the patterns and observing the world’s beauty. These majestic unspoiled areas both at home and thousands of miles away remind us of what is good and decent in our world.
Finally, creating her own studio in her house in Hendersonville, she is able to devote more hours to her art, refining it, practicing, and studying. She recently received a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council featuring homes in Henderson County as well as the honor of exhibiting at the LaVie en Rose at Marked Tree Vineyard. You can also see her work on a Main Street banner in downtown Hendersonville.
